Not-for-profit organisations , aka the third sector: a wide range of organisations that are neither private (first sector) nor public (second sector) and whose aims are broadly social rather than economic. Includes registered charities, educational and academic institutions, professional bodies and campaigning organisations. Emerging consensus: not-for-profit is a more accurate term than nonprofit because: Not-for-profit is a social organisation which aims to make a surplus (revenue is greater than expenditure) to use for target group, activity or function.
